International consultant Hamilton Costa announced that his translation of Disrupting the Future is now available. The book, Rompendo o Futuro, is available in hard copy and e-book versions at the AgBook website. Mr. Costa prepared a special introduction which compares the nature of the US market with that of the printing industry of Brazil. New media affect each market differently based on many factors. Brazil is a relatively young economy in terms of its growth and rising incomes, that did not have as entrenched use of print, especially in advertising. In that sense, the printing business would not have as much volume displaced as other economies would have. So Mr. Costa puts that concept in context, and advises his audience that the growth of alternative media formats need to be understood and that they create challenges and opportunities. Hamilton told me that this has been of greater concern in 2013, because the industry is experiencing the pressures of a slower economy and its own restructuring of media use. In that sense, perhaps Brazilian printers can address the issues more urgently since that will have an understanding of what happened in the U.S.
Disrupting the Future is available in Japanese and Portuguese, and we have been advised that the Russian translation will be available in the future.
