Design Choices Reduce the Impact of Printing Operations

There are plenty of ways to use smarter design to reduce materials and energy in the production of printed materials and to ensure that they can be recycled at “end of life.” A conversation between Debra Rizzi of Rizco Design and Jonathan Bardelline, GreenBiz Radio, is full of really good ideas. Rizco also uses a green “report card” that they use to “grade” every design project that comes out of the company. Use this analytic tool to measure the “greenness” of your projects. Download it here>>

About half of what they are doing I applaud them for. Laminates and foils have always created a conflict in my mind about inability to recycle them.
If you want to really walk the walk, install solar panels and produce your own electricity. the rest are economic decisions (gang runs are for the economics – will they consider gang runs when matching critical color?), believing because it is FSC certified it will be recycled after end user consumes it is impossible to know.
A realy good start, but don’t get too carried away on what is green and what is economics.
