Eat Your Greens – Help Designers and Clients Go Green

By on January 21st, 2010

The Charlotte chapter of the American Institute of Graphic Arts (AIGA) has launched a series of events called “Eat Your Greens” to help designers and clients take a more environmentally-sustainable approach to business.

Printers and marketing service providers can offer events and advice as well. Here are a few examples of companies that are doing exactly that:

Spirit Graphics, Chula Vista CA, winner of the WhatTheyThink Going Green Award in 2009 for “Thought Leadership,” offers their clients the Green Essentials, their green printing practices.

L+L Printers in San Diego and Carlsbad CA helps their clients go green with their I Luv Trees sustainability initiative.

PrintWest, Woodinville WA, offers the Green Assist Program to share the information, research and resources they have uncovered to make their own business more environmentally friendly, with other like-minded businesses.

Belk Printing Technologies, Pineville NC, created Extreme Green as a choice for their clients to give them options to help do their part in the green movement.

Please add your company – or the names of companies you know – and their programs in the comment box below. Let’s make a list of the many ways printers are helping designers and print buyers “eat their greens.”

Mailhandlers is a marketing service provider in Seattle, WA. We participate in the Seattle Green Up program, recognizing the importance of renewable energy. Also we have received a 5-Star Envirostar rating.

Aside from more obvious practices like recycling and FSC Certification, etc, I think that it is always important to reinforce the importance of data hygiene for our clients. If you don’t have a clean and up-to-date database you will like be wasting resources on mailings and programs to people who are no longer even at that location. Save money on postage, on materials and reduce unwanted waste!

Thanks for the recognition! We designed the iLuvTrees campaign and website http://www.iluvtrees.org for L+L Printers.

Incitrio is a boutique branding agency located in San Diego, CA. We are on the board of AIGA San Diego and a founding member of the local Green Salon.

We work with other for-profit and non-profit organizations to help them create & grow their own sustainability initiatives. Green is who you are in the world, not just what you do.
